...A special service offered by the Western Regional Office of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. The Caregiver's Respite program helps those who care for a loved one with Alzheimer's receive a break from the day-to-day challenges of caregiving. It is an award that enables a caregiver to arrange respite from their many burdens.
Caregivers fill out a brief application that is reviewed by the Committee when there is money in the fund. Awards may be up to $500 and cannot be used for permanent nursing home placement.
An award is a way for a caregiver to recover from physical and emotional drain. A caregiver may hire a home health aide for a few hours or arrange for adult day care, so the caregiver can enjoy a day of reading, visiting a friend or shopping. Once an award is made, the caregiver can retain home care services, adult day care, or nursing home respite care. Awards are paid directly to the service provider.
The Caregiver's Respite Program is entirely dependent upon donations from individuals. If you would like to make a donation to this particular service for families struggling with Alzheimer's Disease, please call Ginny Sinkoski at the Alzheimer's Association at
